GATE is one of India's most prestigious examinations for engineering, science, and technology graduates. Jointly conducted by IITs and IISc, the examination serves multiple purposes including admission to M.Tech, ME, MS, and PhD programs. It is also used by major Public Sector Undertakings such as ONGC, IOCL, NTPC, BHEL, and others for recruitment. The exam assesses candidates in specific engineering and science disciplines along with general aptitude and reasoning skills. A valid GATE score can also help candidates secure scholarships and financial assistance during postgraduate studies. Due to its broad acceptance and career benefits, GATE remains a preferred option for students aiming to specialize in technical fields, pursue research careers, or obtain government-sector employment. The examination is highly competitive and requires thorough preparation of core subjects.
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Ministry of Education, Government of India. GATE evaluates candidates' understanding of undergraduate-level subjects in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, and Humanities.
A valid GATE score is used for admission to M.Tech, M.E., Ph.D., and various postgraduate programs in premier institutions such as IITs, NITs, IIITs, IISc, and other universities. GATE scores are also accepted by several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for recruitment.
